ABOUT
Marcus Cole is a London-based architectural designer. His interests lie broadly in the practice, theory and research of cross-disciplinary design. Trained as an architect, he combines his architectural skill-set with his interests in graphic identity, spatial production and critical research. These interests attribute to a style of practice that seek to utilise critical design as a tool for pairing conceptual thinking with well-researched and creative design solutions.
Marcus studied BSc Architecture at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London. He graduated in 2013 and was awarded the Professional Practice Prize. He then took a position at Grimshaw Architects as a Part 1 Architectural Assistant for 2 years, including 6 months in their New York office. While employed, he also volunteered as a tutor at the John Soane Museum, London.
Following this, he studied an MA in Architecture at The Royal College of Art and graduated in 2017. During his time at the RCA, his MA Thesis Project 'Repetitive Collective' was awarded the RIBA West London Student Award (2016) and he sat as a Jury Member for the RCA Battersea South Campus Competition. Upon graduating, he went on to work for Asif Khan Ltd. as a Part 2 Architectural Assistant for 1.5 years. During this period of employment Marcus also tutored computational design and digital modelling at the Bartlett School of Architecture and Drawing Workshops at the Royal College of Art.
Throughout his professional career Marcus has sought to combine architecture with a multitude of different design experiences including tutoring, exhibition design, design festivals, urban think-tanks and freelance representational work. He has consistently sought to improve and hone his principles on representation and as a result, he is experienced in delivering a variety of visualisations, physical models and illustrative designs alongside his architectural knowledge base.
